When renting a car, insurance is not an optional extra – it is one of the most important choices you make. From minor accidents in the parking lot to damage caused by other road users, the protection you have can make the difference between a relaxing experience and unexpected costs.
At Jacob Auto Rent, we offer several types of coverage, depending on your needs and the level of security you want during your rental period. Each option is clearly explained during the booking process, but in this article we detail them so that you know exactly what you are choosing.
Basic protection – minimum legal coverage
Each rental comes with standard protection included in the price: RCA (civil liability insurance). This covers damage caused to other people in traffic, but does not cover damage to the rental car or expenses related to damage caused by your fault.
Therefore, if you choose to remain at the basic level, in the event of an accident you will be responsible for:
-
the cost of repairs to the Jacob Auto Rent car;
-
the period during which the vehicle cannot be rented (immobilization);
-
the full value of the damage, regardless of the circumstances.
Important: In the case of basic protection, the deposit retained at the time of rental is the highest and varies depending on the category of the car – the more valuable the car, the higher the amount blocked.
STANDARD Protection – windshield, windows, and tires included
A common and very useful level of protection in cities or on busy roads. This package covers the costs of damage to:
-
tires (e.g., punctures, cuts);
-
windshield or rear window (cracks, chips);
-
side windows.
In the context of Romanian traffic, where roads can have potholes or gravel and parking spaces are tight, this type of protection significantly reduces the risk of additional expenses.
Please note: any damage other than that covered (bodywork, mirrors, bumpers, headlights, etc.) remains the responsibility of the customer and will be paid in full from the deposit. In addition, the value of the deposit varies depending on the class of car chosen.
PREMIUM Protection – extended protection without financial stress
This level of coverage significantly reduces the customer’s liability in the event of an incident. It is extended protection that includes:
-
accidental damage to the bodywork;
-
damage caused while driving or parking;
-
partial theft (mirrors, windscreen wipers, visible parts);
-
repairs without customer involvement, within the limits of a reduced deductible.
In most cases, your liability is limited to a fixed amount (excess), which is clearly stated in the booking. Anything above this amount is covered by insurance.
Note: Choosing this package significantly reduces the deposit blocked upon delivery. The amount is significantly lower than standard or basic protection, which means greater financial flexibility during your trip.
Full CASCO (SCDW) – comprehensive protection with no excess
SCDW stands for Super Collision Damage Waiver, also known as “full insurance”, the equivalent of Full CASCO for rental cars. It is the highest level of protection available and completely eliminates your financial liability in the event of damage or theft (with the exceptions mentioned in the contract – e.g. driving under the influence of alcohol).
Choose SCDW if:
-
you want complete peace of mind throughout the rental period;
-
you are a tourist and are not familiar with the area or local rules;
-
you are going to drive a lot on unfamiliar routes;
-
you prefer not to block your credit card or want fixed, clear costs.
Key advantage: this package completely eliminates the deposit or reduces it to a symbolic amount (where applicable). It is ideal for customers who want total predictability – you know from the outset that you will not pay anything extra, no matter what happens to the car, as long as you comply with the terms of the contract.
What type of protection should you choose?
It depends on the duration of the reservation, the type of car, the areas where you will be driving, and the level of personal safety you want. If you are renting for one day and only driving in the city, Standard protection may be sufficient. If you are going on long trips or to tourist areas, Premium or Full CASCO insurance is always a wise choice.
The Jacob Auto Rent platform clearly displays all available types of protection, with the corresponding price and coverage. Each package is explained before you confirm your booking, so you can make the right decision.
